What essentials should I pack for a Star Clippers cruise?
23 June 2026
Packing thoughtfully can help you feel relaxed, comfortable and ready to enjoy every part of your Star Clippers sailing. Whether you are a seasoned sailor, or are new-to-cruising, it’s always handy to get some tips from the cruise lines themselves on what to ensure doesn’t get left at home.
Here are six of our most useful items to bring, covering onboard activities, time on deck and days spent exploring ashore.
Closed-toe shoes: Pack at least one pair of trainers or closed-toe shoes so you can comfortably join in with hands-on sailing activities. They are required for climbing the mast and recommended for relaxing on the bowsprit net, where sandals or flip flops can be less secure.
Themed night attire: Many sailings include a White Night, at the Cruise Director’s discretion, where guests are invited to wear white. Some itineraries may also feature a Pirate Night, so a simple themed accessory can be a fun addition to your suitcase.
Binoculars: There is so much to enjoy from the open deck, from scenic arrivals into port to ocean views and coastal wildlife. A pair of binoculars can help you spot dolphins, rare bird species and smaller vessels along the way.
Refillable water bottle: You will find drinking-water stations on the Main Deck, where you can refill with cool, filtered water. A refillable bottle is especially useful on warm days ashore and helps you stay refreshed throughout your trip.
Books or Kindle: There will be plenty of time to unwind between activities. Bring a favourite book or Kindle to enjoy on deck, in the library or during a quiet moment at sea.
Travel fan: Open-deck breezes and onboard air conditioning will help keep you comfortable, but a compact rechargeable fan can be very welcome ashore, particularly during the Mediterranean summer.
