Experience the Monaco Grand Prix in 2017

19th January 2017

Monaco Grand Prix

When it comes to the Mediterranean, there are few places that offer a higher level of exclusivity, glamour and luxury than Monaco. Situated just a few miles away from the Italian Riviera, this beautiful nation has become a tax haven for businesses and a home for many of the world’s rich and famous.

Since the introduction of the nation’s first casino and the establishment of a railway connection to Paris in the 19th century, the world’s second smallest officially recognised nation has become established as a tourist destination. Since 1929, it has also been home to a Grand Prix race unlike any other.

A tight and narrow course threads through the streets of the Monte Carlo district and features many tight corners and a tunnel. It is also centred around the glistening marina, which is home to many large yachts owned by the rich and famous. In May 2017, the Royal Clipper will enable you to join these and rub shoulders with the rich and famous with two unique Formula One sailings. This week, Star Clippers takes a closer look at these sailings and what passengers can expect on each of them.

Monaco GP Trials – 25th May 2017

Monaco Grand Prix

Sailing out of Cannes on the 20th May 2017, this seven-night roundtrip itinerary will take passengers in an eastward direction to the Italian town of Lerici and the island of Elba. Following this, cruisers will then head to Corsica, spending two days exploring the delights of this French island.

On the 25th May, cruisers will then get the chance to experience the adrenaline rush of the Monaco Grand Prix trials. From 10:00 am, you can watch from the stands as the likes of Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton attempt to get to grips with the track prior to the first race. These trial sessions will see each of the drivers navigate their way around the course before the qualifying sessions. As well as the Formula 1 trials, there will also be a chance to see events from the GP2 series and practice for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.

Following your exhilarating visit to Monaco, passengers will appreciate the chance to unwind and relax on the golden sands of St Tropez. Home to a beautiful harbour and some of the world’s most renowned beaches, St Tropez is highly regarded as a people watcher’s paradise.

Monaco GP Finals – 28th May 2017

Monaco Grand Prix

Similar to the Trials itinerary, this cruise will depart out of Cannes on the 27th May 2017 and take passengers on a seven-night roundtrip itinerary. Travelling straight to Monaco, guests will arrive in time to experience the Grand Prix finals. Lewis Hamilton, who has won twice here including in 2016, will be looking to retain his title when the cars line up on the starting grid at 2:00 pm. The Monaco Grand Prix race is an experience that really does has to be seen to be believed.

Following a day in Monaco to soak up the race, passengers will then head to the French island of Corsica and the Italian island of Sardinia. Passengers will then be able to cruise through Corsica’s Scandola Nature Reserve, which provides a home to a unique range of flora, as well as a collection of seabirds and colonies of dolphins and seals.

This wonderful itinerary is followed by a visit to the island of Porquerolles – an untouched paradise beach island which is made accessible due to the small size of the Royal Clipper. Finally, cruisers will get the chance to explore the charming port town of Sanary-sur-Mer – which is situated in the region of Provences-Alpes- Côtes d'Azur.

The Star Clippers Mediterranean season commences in April 2017, with the Star Flyer and Royal Clipper offering a chance to experience a bygone era of sailing. If you can’t wait until then to experience the splendour of tall-ship sailing, you will be glad to know that Star Clippers are currently operating itineraries in the Caribbean and Far East Asia.
